Obakeng is a born leader who has all the required skills to be a leader. He has been mentoring first year students at tertiary since 2008. In Jan 2010 he has initiated his own MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME at his former high school (Holy Trinity) whereby he and other alumni of the school provides career guidance and motivation to the recent learners. The very same year he was appointed as a POSTGRADUATE REPRESENTATIVE for the DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS (PURE & APPLIED) and also as an Academic Development Programme (ADP) Facilitator for first year students at the same department. He is not only a leader in the academic side,he is a part of Executive Committee of a choir called Rhodes University Melodies where he was holding a position of Project Officer for 2009/2010. Due to his outstanding performance he has been appointed as a Chairperson for 2010/2011.
